Program Synopsis

FBI Targets ACT UP

AIDS Community Television #125
originally telecast 5/23/95

The FBI investigates ACT UP from fears of the safety of then-President Bush.

This program documents the ACT UP's Target Bush campaign: the protest in Kennebunkport, the precipitated violence at the Republican National Convention in Houston, the throwing of cremated remains on the White House lawn, carrying Mark Lowe Fisher's open coffin to the Republican Headquarters in New York City on election night, and the final victory party of Bush's election defeat.

Today, the FBI still refuses to release 177 pages of ACT UP's 199 page file, claiming "ongoing law enforcement activity." There's only one media message: "Why is the federal government spending so much time fighting AIDS activists when they should be fighting AIDS."
