AIDS activists honored the last wishes of Tim Bailey for a public funeral in Washington, DC. It was to be a somber, non-violent funeral procession from the Capitol to the White House. However, police would not allow the display of Tim Bailey's coffin in public. The question asked so often during the stand-off between police and activists was "Who is in charge here?"
"Tim Bailey wanted his body to serve as an indictment to
- Bill Clinton,
- Hillary Rodham Clinton,
- Congress,
- the medical establishment,
- the pharmacuetical industry,
- the insurance companies,
- and the religious right,
for their total denial of the worst epidemic in the history of the world as we know it. (And we've not forgotten the crimes of Ronald Reagan and George Bush for the blood of hundreds of thousands on their hands.)"
